FASHION. A simple word yet diversely viewed and defined by different people of different ages and generation coming from different places enriched with different cultures, customs and traditions. Such a simple yet a powerful word that can put you to pedestal and gives you a status in society that everyone would die to have one.
Growing up in poverty in a small town of the North, I was enthralled with how fashion form an index of social affluence and an indicator of social mobility. I grew up watching the clothes of my more fortunate classmates and imagining how would I mix and match it and make it appear way better on me. It was a challenging realization on my end that I have such fascination with fashion but I have to make the most of what I have and what my parents can provide. And so did I! I realized that fashion has no limit. It is just how you define, explore and experiment with its boundless possibilities and endless limitation.

If I were to ask what fashion is, I would say FASHION is PASSION! It is a passion that gives you the audacity to expose and make known the most daring and aggressive spirit within you, something you thought you never had in the first place. In the fashion industry, designers have their haute couture collection where designs range from simple to complex, from organic to even inorganic materials, from fantasy to atrocity; everything out of the box. Every design showcases how the designer views, defines and put into reality his/her wild passion for fashion. In make up, fashion industry is where I am able to have my own haute couture make up collection. Whichever way you look at it, makeup always goes along with fashion, just like bread and butter, or salt and pepper. Makeup just simply goes along with fashion. If the clothing designer has his/her vision with his garment collection, so do with how the women wearing those garments will look like with the makeup on. My experiences with fashion shows, fashion magazines, editorials, etc allowed me to paint my passion for fashion Though most of the time, the creative directors have their own peg for the shoot, yet oftentimes I break the rules. I choose to incorporate my trademark (which is BEAUTY) even if what they are requiring a high-end fashion makeup, something that is too bold or daring(e.g. extremely smoky eyes with blonde eyebrows) even to the extent that it might disregard if it will fit the model’s face. Though I break rules most of the time, I am glad to put an outcome that makes all of the people I am working with satisfied and contented.
Browsing all the works I’ve created for the fashion industry for the past 12 years makes me proud and humble at the same time. Proud because I know my outpouring passion for my craft is visible with the images I’ve created. And humble because I know there’s a lot more in store for me, a lot of visions and images I will soon put into reality. And these images would make me proud to say in the end that I had my share in contributing to the fashion industry. The industry that allowed me to showcase the kind of makeup artist I am today and will be in the future.
